Curriculum Enrichment

“The role of education is to interest the child profoundly in an external activity to which he will give all his potential.”

— Maria Montessori

Cultivating the Whole Child Through Diverse Experiences

Education is most meaningful when it engages the whole child. Our enrichment offerings are thoughtfully woven into the school day, giving students the opportunity to move, create, listen, stretch, explore, and connect. These experiences extend learning beyond the traditional classroom and reflect our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, joyful learners.

Gardening

With sleeves rolled up and hands in the soil, children learn how to care for their environment from the ground up. In our gardening program, students help plant seasonal vegetables and herbs, water and tend garden beds, observe growth over time, and harvest what they’ve grown. These ingredients often find their way into classroom snacks or cooking projects, creating a living connection between nature, nourishment, and responsibility.

Yoga

In weekly yoga classes, children stretch, breathe, and flow through postures that promote body awareness and inner calm. Through animal poses, imaginative breathing, and guided relaxation, children learn focus, flexibility, and tools for emotional regulation—all within a peaceful and playful space.

Languages (Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, French)

Language is taught through movement, music, stories, and cultural exploration. Spanish is offered across all levels, with age appropriate and vocabulary building activities introduced through songs and interactive lessons. Mandarin Chinese incorporates characters, pronunciation, and traditions through games and group work. French also offers early exposure to vocabulary, pronunciation, traditions, and culture. Each program fosters curiosity, memory, and an early global perspective.

Music

Music is both a daily joy and a powerful tool for expression. In Toddler and Primary, children sing, play rhythm instruments, and move to music. In Elementary, students explore melody, beat, notation, and global musical traditions. Music becomes a language through which children express emotion, listen closely, and connect with others.

Creative Movement

Creative Movement invites young children in the Toddler and Primary programs to explore rhythm, space, and imaginative storytelling through physical expression. Using props, music, and guided games, children build coordination, balance, and confidence while learning how to move with awareness and joy.

Physical Education

PE supports children in the Kindergarten and Elementary programs by developing strength, balance, and coordination through games, challenges, and movement exercises. Activities emphasize teamwork, perseverance, and joy in physical expression—building lifelong habits of wellness and confidence.

Art

Art in the Montessori environment is centered around process and exploration. Using watercolor, collage, clay, and mixed media, children express themselves freely while developing fine motor skills and visual literacy. Projects often connect to cultural studies or classroom work, allowing students to reflect their understanding through creative expression.

Field Trips

Our students in the Kindergarten and Elementary programs explore the world beyond the classroom through thoughtfully planned field trips. These include visits to nature preserves, museums, performances, and local points of interest that extend classroom themes. Each trip offers opportunities for independence, social learning, and real-world connections.

Our Reviews

"Our son began his school journey at Miami Shores Montessori school when he was 18-months-old. He is now almost five-years-old and it still has been the best decision we have made for him. As soon as he started school, you could immediately see the change in his mannerisms and articulation. It was incredible to witness— still is, honestly! He is already reading at a very basic level at age four. We love the vast amount of knowledge he is taught daily: everything from Mandarin, to gardening, music, yoga and more. My family and I could not recommend this school anymore! The teachers and administration do an excellent job of running a very dedicated school in the Miami Shores community. We feel so fortunate to be led by them. 100% recommend it!"

"Miami Shores Montessori School is absolutely the best school! The teachers are great and the director knows how to run a school that encourages children to thrive. The children grow both emotionally and academically and are always challenged to their utmost potential. The children love to learn at a very early age. They are also taught great values. We are so thankful to have found this school."
